(Letter) Who are you watching at the 2008 Olympic Games?

No. I don’t mean the protesters or the political dudes mugging for the photo op.
There are currently no comments highlighted.
I mean the athletes.
Or how about a volunteer, coach, or official that we hear about that made a positive impact on the event?
For myself, I’m cheering for Luan Jujie in women’s foil. She won gold for China in 1984 and now she is representing Canada. And she is from my hometown of Edmonton, Alberta.

I am will probably watch Liu Xiang and Guo Jingjing. They are the only persons I know. But without cable, my screen is grainy.

Perhaps if amateur Xiang Shen is an Olympic event!

Who or what are the spectators actually watching in beach volleyball? 🙂
Anyway, for women’s indoor volleyball,
watch out for the titanic battle between USA and China on August 15th.
The US team is coached by “Jenny” Lang Ping, aka “Iron Hammer”, volleyball hall-of-famer and Olympian in China’s gold-medal class of ’84

In no particular order, on top of my head now:
* Ricky Rubio (17 yo Spanish basketball phenom, already good enough to get meaningful minutes against Greece)
* Liu Xiang
* Jeremy Wariner (400m, only other non-black who may win a men’s track gold)
* Wu/Yu of men’s beach volleyball, especially Yu
* Park Taehwan (Korean 18 yo swimmer, one gold already)
* Kitajima (men’s breaststroke swimmer, just had his 1st 2008 gold)
* Lin Dan (badminton, on an all-out attack mode he may the best ever)
* Brazil men’s volleyball
* Italy women’s volleyball, though I will root for the Chinese team
* Whenever Anna Ivanovic wins a point, but that can wait…
* Watching a little bit Japanese women’s volleyball and sigh why Kana Oyama isn’t here. Ok, you can’t just google her pictures, you need to watch her on the court, spiking, yelling and sweating.
* Gonna keep an open mind on picking up sports babes to watch.

I just learn about Dashan watching the Olympics. As a Canadian I am very proud of him. As a person of Chinese descent, I wonder why after over 150 years in Canada, we cannot have a comedian of Chinese descent accepted in Canada. And I think that the Hongkonger’s statement can never be heard in Canada for a Chinese person.
I am rooting for the Canadian team so I am watching any competition with Canadians in it.

As a former amatuer fencer I’m just glad to be in China with a chance to watch more than a token midnight bout on TV – away from the parochial coverage of my home country (not to say that Chinese TV coverage isn’t parochial, but with three channels there’s a better chance of seeing something you want to watch).

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. They’ll most likely meet at the US Open in 2 weeks but I want to see them compete for gold.

Wow, this is one Olympics where political and business leaders mingled with the crowd.
Bill Gates, Henry Kissinger and Keven Rudd were among the spectators for some of the events.
Even the Bush family was there to cheer for their swimming and basketball teams.

I think I saw Ahmadinejad was sitting together with Ehud Olmert on my TV during the ceremony . That’s what the Olympics for: to bring enemies together with harmony and love
But my wife always says I have very bad eye sight.
