What do some Western journalists want from Beijing? Why are the Chinese so upset about the Western human rights activists and advocate journalists? Do not violate my Chinese feelings, or, rather, sensibilities.

Olympic torch relay - the Chinese village version

This series of pictures comes from an amateur photographer in Henan province (连接).  It’s of a self-made torch relay at a local school and restaurant, in a small village in the mountains of Henan province.  No corporate sponsors, no media coverage… just possibly the best relay this year.

Getting ready for the relay

The school principal lights the torch in front of pictures of the Fuwa.

The march of students.

The village watches with all seriousness.

The torch is handed to the next runner.

The procession continues.

The chef also gets a chance to hold the torch.

Waitresses celebrate by jumping rope!

    Well, they are certainly having fun, if this can be regarded as an answer to an early stupid question “Can the Chinese government let people have a good time?”

    Did anyone come to make them pay for using the Olympic logo and mascot?

    I doubt it, and I suppose that’s a good thing about how things are done in China. Some other places have become too politically correct, with too many stricklers not being flexible with rules that common sense is thrown out the window. For example: card-checking an old lady to be sure she is over 21.

    These are some of the most endearing photographs of the Olympics I’ve come across. Many thanks for these.

    My Olympic Update: Villagers are having fun. Foreign reporters don’t know how to have fun. NED-funded ReportersWithoutBorders doesn’t want people to have fun.

    @yo,

    This happened in Huixian, Henan province , about 100 miles east of the Fool’s mountain. ;)

    Are you sure the chef’s restaurant wasn’t a corporate sponsor? :)
